Useful for: Verifying New York corporations, LLCs, LPs, and other entities chartered in or qualified to do business in New York. Confirming registered agent, current status, and entity history.

Limitations: New York filings minimal compared to some states. Officers and directors not always disclosed in basic search. NY DOS does not publish beneficial-ownership information.

New York State Court Electronic Filing (NYSCEF) and Decisions Search

Type: State court electronic filing and decisions database. · Maintained by: New York State Unified Court System.

Cost / access: Free for published decisions; NYSCEF documents access varies by case-type permissions.

Useful for: New York Supreme Court (the trial-level court of general jurisdiction), Appellate Division, and Court of Appeals decisions. NYSCEF gives docket and filing access for cases on the e-filing system.

Limitations: Trial-court coverage uneven across counties. Sealed and family-court matters not accessible.

Limitations: Commercial Division decisions only; smaller commercial matters sit in the general Supreme Court.

Financial regulation

NY Department of Financial Services — Search Industry Database

Type: State financial-services licensing register. · Maintained by: New York Department of Financial Services (DFS).

Cost / access: Free.

Useful for: Banks, insurance companies, money transmitters, virtual-currency licensees (BitLicense holders), mortgage bankers, premium-finance agencies, and other DFS-regulated entities. New York DFS is the state-level regulator with the highest international profile because of its BitLicense regime and major US-bank supervision.

New York City ACRIS — Automated City Register Information System

Type: NYC real-property records database. · Maintained by: New York City Department of Finance.

Cost / access: Free public search.

Useful for: Real-property records for the five boroughs of New York City — deeds, mortgages, mechanic’s liens, and related instruments. Particularly important because Manhattan and the other boroughs concentrate so much US real-estate value.

Limitations: NYC only. Other New York counties operate their own land-records offices.
